“From this season’s “Music Bank” songs, the 15 that are the best according to the audience and the jury have crystallized. Thank you to all the musicians who have entrusted their songs to Latvian Radio 2 during this season – “Music Bank” would not be possible without you. Just like that as without listeners. That is why this year, for the first time in the more than 20-year history of “Muzikalā banka”, we are going “to the whole bank”, and the determination of the winner is left only to the listeners and spectators during the closing ceremony. I believe that this will bring even more excitement to the musicians themselves , and to the listeners of the survey. However, these will not be the only surprises – as always, we have also taken care of the guests who are loved by the listeners, and along with the 15 finalists, the band “Tranzits”, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year, as well as the young and talented singer, will take the stage of the final show Emilija Bērziņa and many other musicians,” says Kaspars Mauriņš, director of Latvian Radio 2.
As every year, not only the musical guests of the final show, but also the host of the evening are carefully selected. Mauriņš reveals that the talented musician and producer Helvijas Finkis, better known by his stage name Finkis, has been entrusted to conduct the final show of “Music Banks 2023”.
Also this year, all finalists of “Music Bank” will receive specially designed commemorative awards. This year, as in previous years, the artist of the award is Armands Jēkabsons, who created it according to the concept of this year’s final show – “all the way to the bank”. Radio waves, a stage microphone, as well as a gold bar stored in banks can be read in the award’s stylistics.
The songs of the grand finale of “Muzikālās bankas 2023” were also judged by an independent and professional jury, which included composer Zigmars Liepiņš, composer, pianist and arranger Kristaps Krievkalns, opera singer Raimonds Bramanis, conductor Aigars Meri, DJ, producer and Latvian Radio 5 music editor Uldis Cīrulis (DJ Monsta), trombonist and Latvian Radio big band member Uldis Ziediņš, singer Elza Rozentāle, conductor and singer Laura Leontjeva, music critic and journalist Uldis Rudaks, as well as musicologist and LTV Kulturas editor-in-chief Ieva Rozentāle.
About “Music Bank”
“Musical bank” is a survey organized by Latvian Radio 2, in which listeners determine the most valuable and most loved domestic songs every year. Latvian Radio 2 airs “Music Bank” three times a week – on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:05 p.m. and on Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. Throughout the year, audience voting on the website www.muzikalabanka.lv determines the most valuable pop and rock songs of the week, month and year. Traditionally, the annual survey of the “Musical Bank” ends with an ambitious award ceremony, in which the authors and performers of songs whose works are most appreciated by the radio listeners and the jury take part.
This year “Music Bank” will be held for the 24th time. “Muzikālā banka 2022” won the laurels of the group “Citi zēni” with the song “Lieka stuka”. The song “Laternas” performed by the group “Sudden Lights” became the second most valuable song, while the third place was taken by “The Sound Poets” with the song “Pie jenas uņu”.
