2,466 children want to go to first grade

The district is currently carrying out the school entry examinations again. They will last until the end of May. After all, we have to look at 2,466 school starters for the school year 2021/2022. As reported by the district, this also includes 666 children who were postponed last year and also those who started school early.

As in previous years, the examinations take place in the health offices in the branch offices of the district office. Due to the corona, the child and a guardian are invited in writing. A previous quick test is not necessary. However, those present must not have any corona-typical symptoms, so they should be free of fever and infection. The examination is possible in the case of only a slight runny nose or cough without a general feeling of illness. Mouth and nose covering is compulsory for the adults at all times; the children do not have to wear the mask during the examination. “Families are appointed in such a way that there is little or no contact with other families in the office,” says Franziska Glaubitz from the district office.

Standardized test procedures are used for school examinations and the child is physically examined, including a vision and hearing test. Finally, the child’s findings are discussed with the legal guardian and a results sheet is created – the school receives a copy of this. The doctor can use this results sheet to express concerns about the child’s school enrollment. Advice is recommended to some, or a recommendation is made to identify special educational needs. Ultimately, the head of the elementary school decides whether a child will start school according to their age.
