A 24-year-old cyclist has died after being hit Thursday morning in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, Virginia.
The woman was identified as Fatima Del Carmen Alvarez Romero. According to the official version, the young woman was riding her cyclist at around 11 am when she entered a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Telegraph Road with Franconia Road. A GMC Savanna pickup traveling northbound on Telegraph Road with a green light moved forward and struck the victim.
Alvarez Romero was pronounced dead at the scene and GMC driver Savanna remained at the scene.
The event remains under investigation. Preliminarily, speed or alcohol are not believed to have been factors.
