The sports clubs in Burgas have united against what they consider to be an unfair distribution of the subsidies due to them according to the “Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Sports in the Municipality of Burgas”.
In a protest letter addressed to the Regional Governor of Burgas and to the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, they appeal for justice and to end the vicious practice of financially supporting certain clubs in the city based on unclear criteria. According to the signatories of the 24 sports clubs under the letter, the municipal administration distributes funds based on unclear, dubious and unfair criteria and without legal basis.
“… while money is being handed out with one hand, the price of using the municipal sports facilities is raised with the other, which kills the popularity of some, even amateur, sports, which have to pay thousands of BGN to use a municipal facility.
Once again, despite the new composition of the Municipal Council and despite the statement that it will work in a new way and funds will not be distributed like this, we are witnessing the distribution of tens and hundreds of thousands of BGN to support certain clubs or people, because this is advertising for the city or “Let’s give them that they will go bankrupt”, for example, and that the specified amounts should not appear in the Ordinance on financial support for sports clubs”, stated the dissatisfied.
The football club “Chernomorets” received BGN 490,000. “Neftohimik” football club – 130,000 BGN. The men’s volleyball teams – “Deya Sport” and “Neftokhimik” – BGN 250,000 each. “Chernomorets” basketball club association – BGN 250,000. Association handball club “Fregata” – BGN 80,000, and Tsanko Tsankov – BGN 70,000, the clubs state.
“We remind you that in addition to this money, the Municipality has allocated according to the Ordinance on Financial Assistance: to the 9 football clubs – a total of BGN 113,608. To the 4 volleyball clubs – BGN 31,203, to the 3 basketball clubs – 39,253 BGN, the two handball clubs – BGN 17,614, for the 7 swimming clubs – a total of BGN 35,679.
We are “FOR” rewarding properly deserving clubs and athletes, but who and in what way determined that these are the representative clubs and athletes for the city of Burgas and they should receive additional funding?”
From there, they demand that the specified amounts be canceled. A variant of new criteria is proposed, through which the fair distribution of subsidies can become a fact.
It is called for the urgent drafting of a new “Ordinance for the Promotion and Support of Sports in the Municipality of Burgas”. In it, the priority sports for the city should be defined and the criteria and parameters for encouragement and awards should be laid down precisely and clearly. And finally, the new regulation should be made available for public discussion.
