23-meter tree installed in New York’s Rockefeller Center

NEW YORK.— A 23-meter-tall Norwegian spruce arrived at Rockefeller Center in the city of New York to be used as one of the trees of Christmas most famous in the world.

NBC’s “Today” show showed the tree being transported by truck early Saturday morning. Later a crane lifted it in its place.

The tree will be decorated in the coming weeks and its more than 5 miles of lights will be turned on in a ceremony at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2, according to NBC, which broadcasts the event. This year no in-person viewers will be allowed due to the pandemic of coronavirusadded the network.

The tree was donated by Al Dick of Daddy Al’s General Store in Oneonta, in downtown New York.

Tishman Speyer, the company that owns Rockefeller Center, has said that it is especially proud to uphold the tree tradition this year. The pandemic has caused the cancellation of some other New York Christmas customs, such as the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
