Since 2002, the International Sephardic Music Festival, the Official Festival of the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain, organized by the Córdoba City Council and the Municipal Institute of Tourism, and whose objective is to deepen the traditions of Sephardic culture through music as a transmission vehicle to continue keeping it alive .
Of a markedly international nature, in this its 22nd edition, which will be held at the Royal Botanical Garden from June 22 to July 1, it will feature performances by musicians and groups from Spain, Argentina, Italy, Morocco, England, Ireland, Germany and Israel.
Thus, the Festival will open on Thursday June 22 with a performance by the group Hagadá, whose repertoire stands out for the fusion between tradition and modernity, exemplified by the use of typical instruments from the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. On Friday, June 23, the voice and violin of the musician and musicologist Amin Chaachoo will be enjoyed, and on Saturday, June 24, it is the turn of the Spanish group Ensemble Musicantes, who use reproductions of instruments of the time, inspired by the existing iconography in Spain.
The second week of the Festival will take place with performances by Klezmerama (Thursday 29), a group that works on the Klezmer music repertoire and the rich culture of Yiddish theater, lyrically adapting them into Spanish in a mixture of rhythms led by the electric violin. On Friday, June 30, Israeli singer-songwriter Eliyah Hera will present a repertoire of songs sung in Ladino and traditional Jewish songs performed in her native language, Hebrew.
On July 1, the last day of the Festival, the Cordovan group Midrash Music will transport the listener through the use of new technologies through sound and ethereal landscapes with the intention of communicating the legacy of Sephardic music in a contemporary way.
All the performances will begin at 10:00 p.m. and will be free of charge until full capacity is reached. The concerts can be followed live through the Municipal Television channel of Córdoba, and in streaming through youtube.com/tvmcordoba.
