22,000 tasted tomatoes at the Spanish festival La Tomatina-Agro Plovdiv – 2024-08-29 08:23:10

Around 22,000 people from all over the world gathered yesterday in Buñol, Spainto stock up on tomatoes during the annual La Tomatina festival.

For the holiday, over 100 tons of tomatoes were prepared to serve in the fresh fruit show. The entertainment lasted an unforgettable hour.

The almost 80-year-old tradition began in 1945 as a parade fight in Buñol, a town located in the province of Valencia, Spain, and ended as a huge tomato fight among the townspeople. Over the years, it has become a hugely popular annual festival billed as the biggest food fight.

The August event has attracted so much interest in recent years that tickets are now limited to just 20,000 attendees. The festival website also shares rules for maintaining safety and respect for other attendees.

Swimming in tomato sauce, throwing tomatoes at each other and even making “tomato angels”.

These are some of the activities that the lucky participants took part in.

Food waste is not a problem because tomatoes used as ammunition are not fit for human consumption.
