Probably from other countries
Investigators in the three countries have worked together to analyze the evidence that could identify the murdered women, but have struggled to find clues.
Several of the women were found along motorways, in forests and in car parks.
Now the police believe that the reason the women have not been identified may be that they are from other countries than where they were found.
– It is possible that the bodies were dumped in other countries to prevent the police investigation, according to Dutch police.
According to Interpol, the various women may have been between 13 and 55 years old when they were killed.
Going out with new details
Now Interpol has released a list containing details of the women: photographs of possible identifying items such as clothing, jewelry and tattoos, and in some cases new facial reconstructions. All in the hope of gathering information from the public.
– Perhaps the audience will recognize a special earring, or a specific item of clothing on one of the women, says Susan Hitchin, to BBC. She is the coordinator of Interpol’s DNA unit.
Here are some of the issues:
The woman in the blanket

One of the cases concerns a woman who was found in the port of the Weser in Bremen in Germany on 30 July 2002. The police assume that she was between 22 and 35 years old.
The body was found wrapped in a sheet, plastic bag, some cloth and a blanket. She was found by private individuals in a leisure boat.
It has not been possible to determine a cause of death, but the woman had injuries to her neck.

The police believe the woman had a child sometime between 1985 and 1999.
The woman in the suitcase
In 2005, another woman was found in a suitcase in a canal at a residential area in Schiedam in the Netherlands. The police assume that she was between 16 and 22 years old.
The suitcase floated in the canal for a while before a contractor in the municipality picked it up. The woman had probably been dead for two weeks when she was found.
The woman was dressed in large, blue sweatpants. She was wearing a red T-shirt in size S/M with the word “Victory” printed in white text on the front.
The police believe the woman is originally from northern Scandinavia, Poland or Germany.

On Monday 2 June 1997, a naked woman was found in a forest in Altena-Bergfeld in Germany.
Someone had raped and strangled her. The day before she was found, the woman was set on fire in the forest. The police believe that the woman was moved, and that the scene of the murder is another and unknown place.
The perpetrator went to great lengths to remove identifying signs of the woman:
It was not possible to take fingerprints. On one of the front teeth, the victim had probably worn a diamond-like stone of approx. two millimeters, but traces in the adhesive surface indicated that the stone was removed after the murder.
