“21st century socialism”: About the elections – fair and open! – 2024-04-19 08:00:14

/ world today news/ Urgent meeting of the Congress and full mobilization for the victory of Rumen Radev and Iliana Yotova

One year has passed since the 50th Congress of the party, five years since K. Ninova was elected as the chairman of the party and one year since the beginning of her second term at the head of the BSP. Time enough to take stock and evaluate where we have gone, what is left of us, of our ideas, what have we achieved?

Pseudo-democratic rhetoric, behind which there are obvious manipulations for the survival of the chairwoman and a few close friends after the election catastrophes. Brutal pressure on party organizations, imposition of failed “leaders of lists”, who have become leaders of themselves in many constituencies. The result of these actions of Ninova is: demotivation to participate in the elections at all levels, mass refusals to participate in the lists and the collapse of the remaining only “on paper” “big left coalition”. And in the end, these actions of the chairwoman logically culminated with

promotion of other, pointless candidates and political meddling instead of unconditional support for Radev and Yotova, which unsettles and divides the socialists.

In the last year alone we have had three parliaments (two new and one previously elected), three parliamentary elections, requests from all sides for “change”, “restart”, “new start”, “remove the status quo”. The party consistently received its worst electoral results in decades. The latest fashion in the speeches of the BSP leadership is to point out that the party is the bearer of stability, reason and dialogue (there is not even a hint of leftist politics). The attempt to form a government with 36 mandates in the 46th National Assembly reveals that, first of all, reason is absent, and how “stable” such a cabinet would be is not difficult to predict.

With all these events, K. Ninova, as the sole representative of the BSP, could not indicate to the socialists (what remains for the entire citizenship) what change we want today, tomorrow for Bulgaria! I did not understand the simple truth that winning the elections and the trust of the citizens is the way to implement left economic and social policies and all other combinations and explanations have no value. Confidence in Ninova’s party is at a critical low level, and this is entirely due to the public image built by herself and her entourage in recent years! Ninova and her helpers created the “personal regime” inside the party and today they must accept that the public rejection of Ninova, proven by two disastrous election results, is an insurmountable barrier to the regaining of BSP’s strength.

Therefore, the change of the chairman of the BSP and the speakers installed by it is the only possible action to partially restore confidence in the party in the upcoming elections. On the eve of a truly decisive choice between the old and the new, between democracy and authoritarianism, the BSP has the chance to start from itself, define itself unambiguously and achieve the kind of electoral result that we all expect. We urgently need a meeting of Congress, but not in the well-known casion-fanfare style of recent years. A Congress for real renewal of the party is the only way to restore the confidence of the citizens. Let’s do it!
