A total of 21,528 people have visited the islet of Gaztelugatxe between 1 and 31 this month of July, an influx that has been ‘significantly reduced’ compared to previous years, mainly due to the access restrictions established by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia to guarantee that the conditions established by the health authorities are met with the aim of stopping the expansion of the covid-19. In July 2019, 95,150 people visited this protected biotope, therefore, the 21,528 this year would only represent 23%.
In this way, the reduction is mainly due to access restrictions established by the Biscayan institution, with the aim of guaranteeing that the conditions established by the health authorities are met to stop the expansion of the coronavirus pandemic.
The data provided by the Provincial Council shows that between July 1, the date on which access control began, and the 31st of that same month, a total of 21,528 people visited this protected Biotope. According to these same figures, the days with the highest influx were Friday, 24, with 845 visits, and July 17, also Friday, with 842, and the least, on 31, with 521 visitors, and 30, with 664.
MORE STATE TOURISM
Along with this, according to Unzueta the number of tourists from the State has ‘grown significantly’, representing 90.4% of the reservations made between July 1 and August 31 to visit the enclave, when last year this percentage stood at 70.4%. In the opposite direction, the number of foreign visitors has ‘fallen back’, which last year represented 29.31% of visits, while this year it remains at just over 9%.
In the opinion of the holder of Sustainability and Natural Environment, this is one of the data that ‘best reflects the fact that Gaztelugatxe is not oblivious to the variations that are occurring in tourist flows as a result of the crisis generated by the covid- 19 ‘.
Among visitors from the State Those arriving from the three territories of the Basque Autonomous Community stand out, representing 20.65% of the reservations made. Behind are those who arrive from Madrid, which represent the 19.78% and Catalonia, with 14.26%. Among foreigners, the majority are those from France (41.33%), Belgium (6.37%) and Germany (5.48%).
