2,100 Kilos of Fireworks Found in Van in Wijhe, Driver Arrested

Dec 28, 2023 at 1:24 PM Update: an hour ago

The police found approximately 2,100 kilos of fireworks in the loading space of a van in Wijhe on Wednesday. The driver, a 45-year-old man from the Overijssel village, has been arrested, the police reported on Thursday.

According to the police, the driver refused to cooperate with an inspection of his van. He did not want to reveal what he had in his cargo area and did not show it to officers. He was subsequently arrested for disobeying a police order.

When the police searched his van, officers came across six pallets in the loading area containing a total of 2,100 kilos of fireworks. As a result, the van was also more heavily loaded than permitted.

The police also searched the suspect’s home. No fireworks were found during that search. However, cigarettes were found on which the police suspect that no excise duties had been paid. The cigarettes have been handed over to customs.
