Hat-trick hero: “Unreal”

NEW YORK. Little Pimp is glowing.

He completed the first hat trick of his NHL career when San Jose once again roared against St. Louis last night – and at the same time took the opportunity to become a sudden death hero.

– It feels unreal, says the 21-year-old rookie after the 3-2 victory.

It’s been a long time since the San Jose Sharks had something to play for, they were practically suspended already last fall – but the young players are still doing what they can to look good for the final clamp of the season and that applies not least to the Swedish youngster William “Lill-Fimpen “Eklund.

He therefore scored all the goals when the sharks bit St. Louis in the throat last night.

First, he slammed in a steaming direct shot in a power play 14.42 into the second period and in another PP just over two minutes later, he got hold of a rebound in front of Joel Hofer and also sent it into the back of the net.

Hero in extension: “Unreal”

The first hat-trick of his NHL career saw the 21-year-old Stockholmer then complete when it was needed most:

I sudden death.

The extension had lasted for just under four minutes when William and defender Jacob MacDonald came loose in a two-on-one situation and just as it looked like he would fit, the Swede whipped the decisive 3-2 puck into the roof of the net.

– When we broke free in overtime, I was fully prepared to shoot, I was just trying to get to the cage. Maybe it was a little lucky, he says with a smile wider than the entire San Francisco Bay when he meets the media afterwards.

– It feels completely unreal.

“Team Victory”

As the humble Swede that he is, “Lill-Fimpen” emphasizes the collective at the same time.

– This was above all a team victory. I love the guys in our locker room. We continue to work hard every day and never complain. This was big for us, he says.

The Blues have now, against all sense, lost every game against the Sharks this year and this blow stung extra, because it reduced the chances of reaching the playoffs significantly.

– Incredibly frustrating, says defender Colton Parayko.

Fabian Zetterlund assisted one of compatriot Eklund’s three goals.
