The deaths have been confirmed by Police Chief Hakeem Odumosu. The AP news agency is talking about at least three deaths, AFP mentions four. Odumosu also reported that three people were pulled alive from the rubble in Ikoyi, a neighborhood of mostly luxury homes and boutiques on the island in the capital. It is feared that dozens of people are still under the rubble. Mainly construction workers as the building was under construction.

Photos show that nothing is left of the building but a large mountain of rubble. Construction worker Eric Tetteh tells AP that he and his brother managed to get away in time. He estimates that more than a hundred people were in the building when it collapsed. Olayemi Bello says that five of his friends are missing, “They are all dead,” he thinks.

“I was working downstairs, so I’m still alive,” 21-year-old Taiwo Sule told AFP. ,,I climbed the hill and saw five bodies. We tried to carry them, but we had to come down. Look at my hands, they’re covered in blood.”
