21 people welcomed 2022 in an unusual way, after getting stuck in a gondola lift in the ski resort “Sandia Peak” in the southern Rocky Mountains in the state of New Mexico, writes BTV.

Among those stranded were a large number of employees of the company that maintains the lift, as well as service staff from the resort’s restaurant, who had just finished work.

Shortly after boarding the lift at 9pm, their plans to celebrate the New Year changed dramatically. The two cabins were stuck, and the reason, according to the resort management, was the formation of ice on the ropes of the lift and the strong wind that led to their entanglement.

At 23:00 the occupants realized that they would not count the remaining minutes until 2022, but the hours until their rescue.

Rescue teams from Albuquerque began work to rescue those stranded in extremely difficult weather conditions, and later helicopters joined the operation.

The operation was successful, but one in the afternoon of January 1. The good news is that there are no injured passengers on the lift, according to the company maintaining the cable car.
