21 MPT patrolmen will go to police stations or municipalities – News from Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru

At the proposal of the councilor Giancarlo Toribio, president of the Citizen Security Commission, the Trujillo Municipal Council approved, by majority, to transfer 21 patrol cars that are without drivers to district municipalities or police stations under the modality of affectation in use, after preparation of a technical file.

This decision will allow prioritizing and accelerating the administrative procedure, with legal and technical reports and to project the necessary agreements in the face of the emergency situation in which Citizen Security of the MPT finds itself.

“This will go to the legal area, to see if it proceeds or not. Subsequently, with the file finished, so as not to incur administrative errors, the Council will evaluate the possible distribution of the units,” said Mayor Arturo Fernández Bazán.

Supporting his request before the plenary session of the Council, he explained that in Florencia de Mora they only have one patrol car for 50,000 inhabitants and that in Alto Trujillo, with more than 70,000 inhabitants, they have two vans, and that at the Sánchez Carrión police station, in El Porvenir, there is only one patrol car.

However, in citizen security there are patrol cars that are not being used due to a lack of drivers and fuel. Only 14 trucks and 22 patrol cars are working, of the 59 that were purchased, the rest are in the garage, he said.

Fernández Bazán, congratulated the councilor for presenting figures and solutions. “He took the time to go to each police station to see the problem,” he said, adding to the request that these units that cannot be used go to the police stations or municipalities, which could also happen with stopped vans.

Councilor Luis Gonzáles Rosell said when intervening ‘we are between a rock and a hard place. What happens if the units are stopped, they are not used and the equipment breaks down due to not having drivers and fuel. The Comptroller is going to question

Juan Namoc stated that he agreed with the affectation in use by doing a prior technical study. The cars are designed for the city and it is not known how they can work on other land, he pointed out, to which the mayor responded by saying that this should have been foreseen when the previous Council approved the purchase.

Sandra Terrones asked that due process be followed and Andrés Sánchez said that this is good, but there are more police stations that have been requesting patrol cars for a long time and that the needs and prioritization in use must be technically evaluated.
