21 people in their mid-fifties and sixty-year-olds were detained in connection with their contact with children for lewd acts. This was announced at the briefing of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.
Five of those arrested have been convicted. The oldest is seventy-six and the youngest is 22 years old. All persons were charged and detained for up to 72 hours.
Sixteen of the people were arrested in Sofia, the rest – by the regional directorates.

Four more are wanted, and one is reported to have left the country.

The network was broken up as part of a specialized operation yesterday, thanks to the actions of so-called “pedophile hunters”.
The “pedophile hunters” who have been caught on the Internet, thanks to whom pedophiles have been caught, have been operating since 2020, said the administrative head of the SRS, Nevena Zartova. They introduce themselves as underage boys and girls on dating sites and arrange a meeting with them. During the meeting, the lovers of children’s caresses were filmed on video. Thanks to these materials provided to the prosecutor’s office, these pedophiles were caught.

As part of yesterday’s operation of the Interior Ministry, more than 30 searches were carried out at addresses and vehicles. Drugs were also found.

Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the case for a crime under Art. 155a, para. 2, supra para 1 of the Penal Code, for which a penalty of “imprisonment” of 1 to 6 years and a fine of BGN 5,000 to 10,000 are envisaged.

Work on the case of the fornication of detainees under the age of 14 continues.
The briefing today was also attended by the head of the Investigation Department at the SDVR, Commissioner Stoyno Tsvetkov.
On Thursday, March 17, 2022, a request will be submitted to the court for consideration of the case for taking a measure of restraint “detention in custody” against all 21 persons.
