This year, the world’s largest television channels celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Christmas cult film “That’s Love”.

The touching comedy “So is love”, in which nine different stories of fate are intertwined together, was originally conceived as two different films. Director Richard Curtis worked on two scripts simultaneously. In one, the main character is a bachelor prime minister played by Hugh Grant. The second screenplay tells of a heartbroken writer, played by Colin Firth’s character in the film. Noticing the similarities between the two stories, Curtis decided to combine them. And it seems that now he has an intuitive ability to strike the right chord, which makes the stories he creates vibrate in the heart of the viewer. He has also written screenplays for masterpieces such as ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and ‘Notting Hill’.
In honor of the anniversary, the ABC channel has prepared a special short documentary with touching interviews with the actors, looking back on 20 years since “That’s how love” hit the screens.
Also on the channel”TV3 Life”, in which the film can be seen on December 17, this comedy has become a holiday tradition. Its path to Latvian viewers began in 2006, when it was broadcast by the channel LNT extension. The film has since been an integral part of the holiday television programme: from 2006 to 2010 it was shown on LNT and TV5from 2012 to 2013 the baton was taken over by LTV1, later from 2016 to 2019 the film was shown both on LNT, “TV3 Plus” and “Kanālā 2”, and from 2020 – on “TV3 Life” and “TV3 Plus” .
Making its screen debut in 2003, “That’s Love” became an instant classic in the Christmas TV movie repertoire, alongside such favorites as “Home Alone” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The key to success is clearly the masterfully created story – each character is “one of us”, who also has ups and downs both in private life and at work.
