Will the process lead to real sanctions or is it just another warning without consequences? If no answer should be given before, at least, the end of the summer, the Olympiakos has in any case put itself in dirty sheets. The Piraeus club, which seemed to be on its way to picking a 45th title in the Greek championship, has just been overtaken by a dark story of match-fixing, as revealed by the SDNA newspaper.

The facts go back to 2015, and to a meeting against Atromitos then won by Olympiakos. The ethics committee of the Greek League, which has been working on the file for several months, would have ended up gathering enough evidence of the guilt of the most successful club in the country. The sanction envisaged? A direct relegation to the second division, 3 million euros fine and the sidelining of the club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, from all activities related to football.

The president of Atromitos, George Spanos, risks the same sanctions, just like his club. This scandal is shaking Greek football as a whole. No fewer than 15 accused are singled out. The floor is now on defense.
