20,600 hectares burned, very low progression of fires, no new evacuation

The two fires that have been burning in Gironde for more than a week have “very very little progress” overnight, said on Twitter during a last assessment the prefecture, Wednesday July 20 in the morning. Emmanuel Macron is expected on site in the afternoon.

During the night, no new evacuations were ordered and no casualties were reported. Since the start of the fires, nearly 37,000 people have been evacuated, said Tuesday evening the sub-prefect of Arcachon, Ronan Léaustic. The prefect of Gironde and New Aquitaine, Fabienne Buccio, announced Tuesday evening a “quiet” :

Fire “under control” in Brittany

The town of Botmeur was notably evacuated by the authorities. Accommodation centers have been set up in Sizun and Landivisiau.
