2025/26 Bundesliga TV Rights Reassignment: What You Need to Know

Unlike in the past eight years, the live rights can now again be awarded to individual providers. In this case, from the 2025/26 season onwards, only a pay TV or streaming subscription would be necessary to be able to follow all games. The live rights are currently divided between the providers “Sky” and “Dazn”.

More movement in market conditions

“The reason for this is that there is now significantly more movement in the market conditions for live broadcasts with providers such as Dazn, RTL and Amazon,” said the Cartel Office’s statement. The authority wanted to break the dominant position of the pay-TV channel “Sky” with the obligation to divide the rights – the “no single buyer rule”. The central marketing of Bundesliga rights requires approval because it partially undermines competition.

Award planned by August

The cartel office also insists on a timely summary of the games on free-to-air television. The DFL has advertised the so-called “highlight rights” in two variants: either for the Bundesliga broadcast to begin on Saturday from 6:30 p.m. – as previously in the ARD “Sportschau” – or only from 7:15 p.m. The rights auction is scheduled to start in April and be completed before the start of the new season in August.
