The farm and tourists enjoying the cherry blossoms also captured the interesting sight of Taiwanese macaques feasting on the cherry blossoms on the cherry blossom trees, which was a pleasant surprise. Continuously, I saw macaques grabbing the cherry branches one after another and gnawing on the cherry blossoms, eating with gusto. The farm stated that macaques are omnivorous animals and usually use leaves, fruits, petals, etc. as food sources. Cherry blossom petals are also one of the food sources and are common on the farm.
The cherry blossoms in Wuling Farm are in full bloom, and the macaques also come to have a lively fight. They sit on the cherry trees and eat the cherry blossoms for a while. If they can’t get enough of one tree, they climb to other cherry trees and continue to feast on the cherry blossoms, one after another, shooting left and right, continuously. The entire cherry blossom forest is its dinner plate, which is quite enjoyable. Tourists are amazed by it, exclaiming and taking photos one after another.
Chang Fangqi, deputy director of Wuling Farm, pointed out that macaques are omnivorous animals and usually use leaves, fruits, and petals as food sources. Cherry blossom petals are also one of the food sources. Normally, the farm will not stop or interfere with macaques eating petals. They will only be driven away unless there is disorderly behavior. As for the taste of cherry blossom petals, Showa cherry blossoms have a bitter taste, while Pretty in Pink is not bitter and has a fragrance.
The Lunar New Year coincides with the cherry blossom season, and many tourists go to Wuling to enjoy the cherry blossoms to celebrate the New Year. Some tourists went to the camping area to spend New Year’s Eve and were even more impressed by the beautiful cherry blossoms. Since it rained all night on Little New Year’s Eve, they did not expect the weather to clear up on New Year’s Eve. Tourists said they were very lucky to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom on New Year’s Eve at Wuling Farm. Cherry blossoms are a very special experience; some tourists also said that it was the first time they experienced the beautiful scenery of cherry blossoms blowing in the wind and petals falling. The road was covered with cherry blossom petals and the soles of their feet were fragrant when they stepped on them. It was a great experience.
Wuling Farm said that currently 50% of the cherry blossoms are in bloom, and the first wave of mountain cherry blossoms can still be seen. Now the Showa cherry blossoms and pink beauties are gradually blooming, followed by Ryukyu crimson cherry blossoms and other flower species. This year’s Spring Festival, almost all tourists staying on the mountain to celebrate the New Year will visit. Due to the post-epidemic trend of traveling abroad, there are not many tourists taking day trips today. It is expected that there will be a peak number of tourists on the third day of the Lunar New Year.
