With a budget of 9 billion euros to date, a billion viewers for the opening ceremony, 13 million breakfasts, 30,000 police and volunteers and 10,500 athletes, the numbers for the 2024 Paris Olympics “July 26-August 11” promise distinguished games.
It is expected that 10,500 athletes will participate in the games, most of whom will reside in the Olympic Village located in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis of the capital, Paris. They will compete in 32 sports, including four additional “break dancing, sport climbing, skateboarding, and surfing.”
In total, 329 competitions are contested by 203 registered countries, as well as Russian and Belarusian athletes under a neutral flag, excluding team sports.
More than 15 million spectators are expected to attend the Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to figures from the Paris Tourism Office. About 12% of them are coming from abroad, meaning about two million spectators, including 1.5 million for the Summer Olympics, most of whom are British and Americans.
For the opening ceremony on the Seine, 100,000 people bought tickets to be on the lower platforms, while the number of crowds on the upper platforms has not yet been determined, which will number in the hundreds of thousands.
The tickets, which some considered expensive, were sold for between 24 and 2,700 euros for the opening ceremony. 7.6 million tickets sold out of ten million.
About a billion viewers are expected to watch the opening ceremony, as hundreds of boats sail the Seine River carrying the participating delegations.
It is also expected that between 17,000 and 22,000 protection personnel from private security companies will participate in the Olympic sites and fan areas.
There will be 30,000 volunteers to receive, assist and locate spectators, but also athletes and help with 6,000 doping tests during the Games.
A total of 13 million breakfast meals are served, including light ones, with the promise that 80% of them will be produced in France, and among the list are 3 million bananas!
The budget currently stands at 8.8 billion euros ($9.59 billion), according to the organizing committee and Solideo (the company responsible for building the sites), but the final figure will be known after the Games.
According to estimates by the Court of Accounts, 3 billion euros of public funds are allocated for the games.
Metro ticket prices: Between July 20 and September 8, the price of a trip ticket rises to 4 euros, compared to 2.10 currently, and the price of a daily ticket is 16 euros, and a weekly ticket is 70 euros.
