A 61-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man joined the list of pedestrians fatally struck in New York, just 12 hours apart.
Early this morning a woman walking north on 90th Street at 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights (Queens) was struck by the driver of an SUV vehicle who fled the scenereported NBC News.
The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after 6:45 a.m. The driver was last seen fleeing south on 92nd Street from 37th Avenue. There was a heavy police presence at the place during the morning today.

Previously, yesterday around 6:50 pm in Canarsie (Brooklyn) a man was hit while crossing the street Glenwood Road at E. 105th St, police said.
The victim was in the crosswalk when a 47-year-old driver behind the wheel of a white 2017 Dodge Caravan minivan heading west on Glenwood Road struck him. “I heard the knock [y] “I thought the truck was going to enter my store,” he said. Daily News the manager of a nearby business, Mike Kasm. “They dragged him all over the block.… I ran back and called 911 immediately.”
The victim was dragged about 50 feet from where he was struck before the driver stopped. Paramedics took him to Brookdale University Hospital, but were unable to save him.
The driver remained at the scene and was later arrested.. Charges against him were pending last night. The victim’s name was not immediately released as police worked to notify her family.
Earlier, a man riding a scooter near the corner of Fulton St. and Richmond St. in Cypress Hills crashed into an open car door around 5:15 p.m., police said. He was also taken to Brookdale University Hospital, in critical condition. There were no immediate arrests.
The authorities remember that there is zero tolerance towards drivers who drive at excess speed and/or under the influence of alcohol and drugs..

This despite “Vision Zero” road safety plan created in 2014 by then-new Mayor Bill de Blasio, who promised to make the city safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists with a goal of zero deaths by 2024. According to the NYPD, cyclist deaths increased 260% in the first six months of 2023 and 325% since the implementation of the “Vision Zero” plan in 2014.
In December Governor Kathy Hochul signed the “Angelica Law”, intended to keep drivers with prior suspensions off the road by charging repeat offenders who operate vehicles after committing five or more traffic violations that resulted in suspensions or revocations as a felony.

Previously, a Hispanic fifteen-year-old was one of two people who died in a brutal accident in The Bronx (NYC) when the driver of the car they were traveling in crashed while doing stunts at high speed. Another 17-year-old Latina remains seriously injured.
