The North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) competition has ended in the US, announcing the winners in all three categories.
The NACTOY competition is held in several rounds. 50 car journalists representing the press, television channels and radio stations in North America gathered already in the summer of 2023 and compiled a list of 52 applicants. The number of applicants was whittled down to 25 at the Detroit Auto Show in September, 16 more were removed from the shortlist at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November, leaving just nine finalists, and the winners were announced yesterday at the M1 Concourse event.
The 2024 North American Car of the Year went to the Toyota Prius/Prius Prime, beating out the Honda Accord and Hyundai IONIQ 6. The Ford F-Series took first place in the Pickup of the Year category for the fourth consecutive year, beating out the Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado EV, while the Kia EV9 was named Crossover of the Year in North America, proving its superiority against the Genesis GV70 and Hyundai Kona/Kona EV.
