2024 J Pro Tour Kickoff: Hayabusa Okamoto Wins Kanoya Kimotsuki Road Race for Second Consecutive Year

The 2024 J Pro Tour begins in Kagoshima Prefecture. The first round, the Kanoya Kimotsuki Road Race, became a sprint race with all the losers absorbed in the final stages, with Hayabusa Okamoto (Aisan Kogyo Racing Team) winning. They won the opening game just like last year.

The opening round of the 2024 J Pro Tour will be held in Kagoshima Prefecture, just like last year. The first race, the Kanoya-Kimotsuki Road Race, will start and finish at Osumi Regional Park, and will be held on a 6.5km course set on public roads around the park, which straddles Kanoya City and Kimotsuki Town. Although the laps were run in the opposite direction from last year, with shorter climbs and steeper slopes, the course’s character remains the same, with less wear and tear if you take advantage of the speed on the descents, and making it difficult for groups to break up.

On the fifth lap, Shota Shimano (Iname Shinano Yamagata) and Takayuki Abe (Velorian Matsuyama) jumped out and built a 30 second lead, but it didn’t last long.

As the race approached the final stages, Shibata and Shinkai fell behind from the lead group, reducing the number of riders to eight. Perhaps hating this move, Kai Kobayashi (Matrix Power Tag) took the lead from the lead group. This movement caused the leading group to collapse. Keigo Kusaba (Aisan Kogyo Racing Team) from the main group caught up with Kobayashi, who was leading alone, and the pair entered the 18th lap. However, the gap between them and the main group quickly narrowed, and they absorbed the lead before the final lap. The group heads to the finish as one.

He held high the V sign with his left hand, indicating his second consecutive victory in the tournament following last year, and clinched the victory.
