It also includes books on personal and national histories, and works on family relationships. The books feature bestsellers in their respective countries, and the likes of Andrey Kurkov, Kadare, and Hwang are familiar faces on the list.

Those who appeared in the list earlier have also been included in the long list this time. If he wins the award in 2024, Ismail Kadare will become the first writer to win the Booker International twice. In 2005, he won the first International Booker Prize.

The list also includes works done by some of the previously long-listed translators. Another feature of this list is the predominance of books by independent publishers. The list ranges from 37-year-old Ursula Honeck to 88-year-old Ismail Kadare, indicating that representatives of a wide range of ages are awaiting recognition.
