The Ice Hockey World Championship returns to the Czech Republic after nine years. The hockey matches will take place from May 10 to 26, 2024 in Prague and Ostrava.
An event of international significance naturally brings with it not only sporting experiences, tension and belonging with one’s national team, but also possible complications associated with the movement of a large number of people. We adhere to the motto that “those who are prepared are not surprised” and on this page we have prepared an overview of information that could be useful for all hockey enthusiasts.
Don’t get caught offside
What do we mean? You can only be sure of entering the match when you buy a ticket from official sources. If you buy a ticket from an unofficial source, e.g. through an advertisement, there is a high probability that you will not get to the desired match. Resales often work by selling one ticket multiple times or selling a fake. Therefore, we definitely do not recommend purchasing outside of official sources. Official ticketing information is available on the website 2024.iihfworlds.com/vstupenky, where you will find a clear signpost that will take you to the websites of the official ticket sellers Ticketportal and Ticketmaster according to your ticket request. If you have been defrauded, look for the workplace of the Police of the Czech Republic directly on the spot.
Don’t let yourself be excluded
If you already have a valid ticket, it would be a shame to be late for the match. Especially if you are going to hockey for the first time, you may be surprised by a security check at the entrance. A variety of objects that could be dangerous to other visitors or players and referees on the ice surface may not be brought into the arena. Do not carry weapons, sharp objects, pyrotechnics, drinks or food. You can find an overview of other prohibited items and the visitor rules of Prague’s O2 Arena and Ostrava’s Ostravar Arena in a separate chapter. Also remember that people under the influence of alcohol or other addictive substances may not be allowed into the arena.
Play without fouls
Observe the principles of good behavior on and off the sports grounds. After all, you can cheer decently, and your team would certainly not appreciate it if a fan in their colors behaved inappropriately or even illegally. Therefore, do not restrict or threaten other people and do not damage other people’s property. When traveling by means of public transport, follow the rules of the carriers and the rules of road traffic when behind the wheel. If you are traveling for a hockey experience by car, find out in advance the possibilities and capacity of parking. Do not park in violation of the regulations, so that you do not have to deal with a fine after the game or even look for a towed car in the detention parking lot.
Pay attention to the equipment
Mind your own business. As we all know, crowds testify to the persistent. Therefore, keep an eye on your belongings on public transport, in queues in front of the stadium and in short wherever there is a confusing situation. A cell phone or wallet in the back pocket of a thief’s pants directly prompts the thief to take action. Keep your purse closed and always in sight. It is better not to take valuables and luggage (backpacks, bulky handbags, etc.) with you to the match. Inspections of larger bags at the entrance greatly delay check-in. If you came to cheer on a car, be sure not to leave valuables such as wallets, payment cards, mobile phones or other electronics in it. However, even a bag with unknown contents left on the seat can attract the attention of a thief. In short, the car has never been and never will be a safe. Ideally, store things in the luggage compartment before arriving at the destination.
