In the 2024 edition of the Dance Festival there was more participation despite the unexpected weather. Almost 100,000 dancers celebrated the art of movement for six days across Switzerland.
From Tuesday to Sunday, 500 performances, 600 classes and nearly 20 dance film screenings were held in more than 30 locations, organizers said on Sunday. Eighteen French cities were involved in the event, as well as around ten German cities – including Bern, Basel and Zurich – and Ticino.
On the piers and public squares, in parks, theaters, museums, cinemas or pedestrian areas, the festival took over all levels. From afrodance to capoeira, including dervish dance, flamenco, waltz, tango and lindy hop, the program offered a wide range of classes and workshops, for all levels and in all styles.
Party virus
At the Dance Village in Geneva, 150 spectators were blown away by the laughter, grimaces and songs of the Danish dancer Mette Ingvartsen. In Bienne and Fribourg, it was the Ouinch Ouinch Company that sent the party virus to the public with its wild and explosive choreography. The Valais duo Dakota and Nadia opened the fire for the first edition of the Fête de la Danse in Sion.
Thirteen shows stopped in several French cities, including Jukebox Dancer in which Kilian Haselbeck questions labels by exploring his desire to be more than just one version of himself (Bulle, Vevey and Morges). In Entrelacés, Cédric Gagneur and his Cie Synergie were looking for a symbiosis between the aerial world of the guitar and the earthly side of breakdance (Fribourg, Bienne and Sion).
Highlighting dance and making it accessible to all is one of the missions of the Fête de la Danse. The next edition, which will mark the 20th, will be held from May 14 to 18, 2025.
