2024 CDMX Marathon Route: These streets will be closed for almost 12 hours

The 41st edition of the Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2024 is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the country’s capital and with a large number of attendees, including runners, their families and fans, which implies a great deal of logistical work to mark the race route and guarantee safety.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported that, as occurs in each edition, during the marathon that will take place this Sunday, August 25, a special surveillance operation will be implemented in which more than 2 thousand police officers will participate, deployed along the route, which will cover various roads in the Coyoacán and Cuauhtémoc municipalities.

According to the SSC, the 2024 Mexico City Marathon will begin at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, south of the country’s capital, and will conclude at the Zócalo, running through the streets and avenues:

  • Rectorate of the University City and the University Olympic Stadium.
  • Insurgentes Sur, up to the Insurgentes roundabout.
  • Oaxaca Street.
  • Nuevo Leon Avenue.
  • Spain Park.
  • Sonora.
  • Chapultepec.
  • Reforma Avenue.
  • Calzada Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Chivatito Causeway.
  • Julio Verne.
  • Luis G. Urbina.
  • President Masaryk.
  • Moliere.
  • Cuernavaca Railway.
  • National Army.
  • Thiers.
  • Darwin.
  • Ruben Dario.
  • Ignacio Ramirez.
  • Republic Square.
  • Juarez.
  • Lazaro Cardenas Central Axis.
  • Francisco I. Madero.
  • Simon Bolivar.
  • Republic of El Salvador.

The SSC indicated that elements of the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control will implement traffic cuts on various roads from the early hours of Sunday, August 25, which will remain in place for approximately 12 hours until the event ends, with the aim of facilitating vehicular and pedestrian mobility.

Road closures will be in:

  • Insurgentes Sur Avenue, from University City to the Insurgentes Roundabout.
  • Oaxaca Avenue, from the Insurgentes roundabout to Sonora.
  • New Leon: from Alvaro Obregon to Campeche.
  • Sonora Avenue: from Alvaro Obregon to Chapultepec.
  • Chapultepec Avenue: from Sonora to Monterrey.
  • Florence
  • Paseo de la Reforma: from Fuentes de Petróleos to the roundabout on Violeta Street.
  • Thiers
  • President Masaryk: from Mariano Escobedo to Moliere.
  • Jules Verne: from Paseo de la Reforma to Presidente Masaryk.
  • Moliere Avenue: Masaryk at Lago Alberto.
  • National Army: from the Cuernavaca Railway to Mariano Escobedo.
  • Juarez Avenue.
  • Simon Bolivar Street: from the Republic of El Salvador to Madero.
  • 20 de Noviembre Avenue and Constitution Square, most of which are exclusively pedestrian.
  • Axis 3 East Francisco del Paso y Troncoso
  • Lázaro Cárdenas Central Axis and Inner Circuit
  • Aztecs Avenue
  • Cuauhtémoc Avenue
  • North Division Avenue
  • National Marine Avenue
  • Peripheral Ring

The Security Secretariat reported that a total of 2,231 police officers will be deployed along the route for surveillance purposes, supported by 159 patrol cars, 67 motorcycles, nine cranes, six ambulances and three motorcycle ambulances from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squadron (ERUM), to ensure the safety of participants and attendees. There will also be support from a Cóndores helicopter, which will monitor the sporting activities from the air.
