2023 US Grand Prix Qualifying: Leclerc Claims Pole Position Despite Verstappen’s Deleted Time

Max Verstappen set the fastest time in qualifying for the 2023 US Grand Prix, but his time was deleted. Leclerc will start from pole position ahead of Norris and Hamilton.

Heat and track limits. Formula 1 in Austin continued where it ended in Qatar. Perhaps the only thing missing was the Qatari air humidity.

In the first part of the qualification, Nico Hülkenberg paid the most for the track limits, who was one of those who did not advance. The FIA erased his time for exceeding the track limits in the sixth corner. The surprise was provided by Fernando Alonso, who until now was the only driver to advance to Q3 in all of this year’s qualifiers. In Austin, however, the qualification ended for him already in the first part. Hülkenberg, Alonso, Albon, Stroll and Sargeant did not advance from Q1.

In the middle part, the sports commissioners deleted Norris’s time, but he was able to correct it. Cunoda, Chou, Bottas, Magnussen and Ricciardo did not advance to the next fights.

In the third section, Leclerc took first place. Verstappen lost two tenths to him and was really angry that Pérez got in his way in the last corner, but he was quite far from him. In second place was Hamilton, who lost 5 hundredths to the Monaco. The Russells erased time.

In the second attempt, Leclerc accelerated even more. But Verstappen managed to beat his time by 0.005 seconds. Shortly afterwards, however, the Red Bull riders erased the time for exceeding the track limits in the 19th corner.

Pole position was thus won by Leclerc ahead of Norris and Hamilton. Verstappen will start sixth.
