2023 U-17 World Cup Winners and the Impact of German Youth Football Philosophy in Indonesia

Jakarta

German youth football is now the best in the world. This was proven by their success in winning 2023 U-17 World Cup.

Germany U-17 national team just won the prestigious title after beating France in the final. In the match which took place at Manahan Stadium Solo, Saturday 2 December 2023, Germany won on penalties after drawing 2-2 in normal time.

Germany’s success in winning the U-17 World Cup cannot be separated from the philosophy they apply to young players. Germany has just changed the rules for the way football is played by U-11 players.

The emphasis is on a fun, player-centric approach. Apart from that, it is emphasized that children get more touches of the ball, the strength to defend the ball, and dribbling the ball.

And, that is what Germany is currently introducing through Borussia Academy Indonesia (BAI). The Bundesliga club SSB is holding the 2023 Funino Festival at Deutsche Schule Field Jakarta, BSD, Tangerang.

BAI CEO, Saras Desch, said that this is the fourth series of the 2023 Funino Festival after previously being held every weekend.

The 2023 Funino Festival is attended by children aged 6 to 16 years. In total there were around 150 children participating in the event.

“Funino Festibal 2023 is the introduction of a new system (philosophy) in Germany. The aim of holding Funino Festival 2023 is so that children enjoy playing football and don’t feel pressured when playing football,” said Saras in a press statement.

“So in Germany, this philosophy is being widely used and it has been proven that the German U-17 national team can reach the final of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. This system has apparently been successful there and we are trying to apply it to young children in Indonesia,” said Saras.

The 2023 Funino Festival will not only be attended by children who train at BAI. Saras Desch also invited several Football Schools (SSB) in Jakarta to train together to gain this philosophy.

“Our hope is that young children in Indonesia can play football better. We believe that having more touches on the ball can improve their quality,” said Saras Desch.
