The top 16 2023 U-17 World Cup it’s almost full. 15 countries have confirmed qualification, leaving one more spot up for grabs.
Morocco and Ecuador represented Group A. Atlas Lions finished as group winners with 6 points, followed by La Tri with 5 points. Spain (7 points), Mali (6) and Uzbekistan (4) are the three best teams to qualify from Group B.
Group C also sent three representatives, namely England, Brazil and Iran. All three of them both have 6 points, but England is ahead on goal difference (+10), so they qualify as group winners. Brazil and Iran occupy second and third positions respectively.
Group D is also the same. Argentina, Senegal and Japan qualified with six points in the final standings, but Argentina’s goal difference was better (+5) than Senegal (+2) and Japan (+1). In Group E, France and the United States have confirmed qualification and will fight to determine the position of group winner.
Lastly, there are Germany and Venezuela who have confirmed themselves to qualify from Group F. Both of them will also fight in the closing match of the group to determine who will win the group.
The remaining slots for the top 16 will belong to one of five countries, namely Indonesia, South Korea, Burkina Faso, Mexico and New Zealand.
Indonesia has completed the group stage by winning two points, the others still have one match remaining. South Korea (0 points) will challenge Burkina Faso (0 points) and Jenisko (1 point) will face New Zealand (0 points).
The two matches were held on Saturday (18/11). Whoever of the five countries has better points in the final standings will qualify for the knockout phase.
