2023 Run Optics Valley Marathon: Wuhan’s Newest Full Marathon Event

At 7:30, as the starting gun sounded, more than 16,000 Chinese and foreign runners from 18 countries and regions set off from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, passing through the Optics Valley Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, passing by Galaxy Plaza, Optics Valley Tennis Center, Optics Valley Sky You can experience the innovative vitality and technological charm of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Zone (also known as “China Optics Valley”) at close range while running along the railway track, the “Cala Lily” building and other city landmarks.

In addition to healthy running, half marathon, and full marathon, this year’s Optics Valley Marathon has specially set up 35 relay running formations to jointly complete the 42.195-kilometer challenge. The relay race array selected representative enterprises and scientific research institutions in Optics Valley such as FiberHome Communications, YOFC Optical Fiber, and National Pulse High Magnetic Field Science Center to pay tribute to Optics Valley’s 35 years of development.

After fierce competition, Kipkirui LANGAT from Kenya crossed the line first and won the men’s championship. The women’s championship was also won by Ruth Waithira KARANJA from Kenya. Chinese athletes Tan Qi and Xiong Juan won the men’s and women’s half marathon championships respectively.

38-year-old He Xiong came to Optics Valley to work and live after graduating from university. He fell in love with running a few years ago and has been looking forward to completing a marathon “at his doorstep”. “I have witnessed the rapid changes in Optics Valley in the past few years, and I feel particularly proud to run on this familiar land,” he said.
