Recently, various provinces have successively released population data for 2023. Currently, 28 provinces have released their 2023 population data.
28 provinces released population data
Among the 28 provinces that have released population data, 9 provinces have shown positive growth in resident population, namely Zhejiang, Guangdong, Hainan, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Xinjiang, Guizhou, Beijing and Tianjin. The total population increase of these nine provinces last year reached 1.6025 million. Among them, there are two provinces with a population increase of more than 200,000, namely Zhejiang and Guangdong, with an increase of 500,000 and 490,000 respectively.
For a province, population growth includes natural growth and mechanical growth (i.e. “net population inflow”). Among the nine provinces with population growth, some are mainly due to natural population growth, such as Guizhou; some are mainly due to mechanical population growth, such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta, and Beijing and Tianjin in North China; Places have both natural population growth and mechanical growth, such as Guangdong.
From the perspective of population migration trends, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta have become the main areas for population migration. On the one hand, my country’s population is still gathering in developed regions such as the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta; on the other hand, within each province, the population in small and medium-sized cities and rural areas continues to flow to central cities. Although the total population of some provinces is declining, the population of provincial capital cities is still increasing.
From a city perspective, among the cities that have released population data for 2023, the top four increments are Hefei (an increase of 219,000), Zhengzhou (an increase of 180,000), Hangzhou (an increase of 146,000), and Chengdu (an increase of 146,000). 135,000 people), all are new first-tier cities and all are provincial capitals.
Peng Peng, executive director of the Guangdong Provincial Restructuring Research Association, analyzed China Business News. Overall, the new first-tier cities and strong second-tier cities have experienced rapid economic development in recent years and have become new engines for regional economic development. These cities have outstanding high-tech industries. , which means there are many opportunities and more new jobs.
On the other hand, the provincial capital city is the center of the province’s economy, politics, culture, medical care, education and other aspects, attracting the inflow of population from other cities in the province. Among them, the provincial capital cities in the central and western regions, including Hefei, Zhengzhou, and Chengdu, are located in provinces with large populations. The provincial capital cities also have relatively large population hinterland and population growth potential.
Among them, Hefei leads the list of announced cities in terms of population growth. Lin Fei, a researcher at the Anhui Academy of Social Sciences, said that Hefei’s population growth is closely related to industrial development. In recent years, Hefei’s overall development ideas have been relatively clear, and it has accurately grasped the laws of industrial development. On the one hand, it has done a good job in agglomeration and improvement of original industries, and on the other hand, it has vigorously developed emerging industries, including new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, integrated circuits and other emerging industries.
Taking the new energy vehicle industry as an example, Hefei’s new energy vehicle output will be 746,000 units in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 1.4 times, ranking among the top five in the country.
Number of births: Guangdong, Henan, and Shandong rank among the top three
What will be the birth population situation in various places in 2023?
Currently, 27 provinces have released birth population data last year. Among them, Guangdong, Henan, Shandong and Sichuan had more than 500,000 births last year; Guangdong has been the only province with more than 1 million births for four consecutive years, and has been the most populous province for six consecutive years; after Guangdong, Henan, the most populous province in central China Last year, the number of births was 695,000, ranking second; Shandong had 610,000 births last year, ranking third.
In terms of birth rate, among the provinces that have published data, 6 provinces have a birth rate of more than 8‰, namely Guizhou, Hainan, Qinghai, Yunnan, Guangdong and Guangxi, mainly located in the western region and southern China.
Generally speaking, places with higher birth rates tend to have lower urbanization rates. However, there are exceptions. For example, the urbanization rate of Guangdong, the largest economic province, reached 75.42%, ranking fourth in the country. However, Guangdong’s birth rate last year reached 8.12‰, ranking among the highest.
Peng Peng analyzed that on the one hand, Guangdong’s total permanent population ranks first in the country, and the total inflow of people from outside the province is very large. The inflow population structure is relatively young, and the proportion of people of marriage and childbearing age is relatively high. On the other hand, although the willingness to have children in places such as Chaoshan in eastern Guangdong and Zhanjiang in western Guangdong has also declined in recent years, due to the influence of traditional fertility culture, the willingness to have children in these places is still relatively high compared to other regions.
While the birth population and birth rate are declining in most provinces, Hainan’s birth population and birth rate in 2023 are both on the rise. Data released by the Hainan Provincial Bureau of Statistics show that the province’s birth population in 2023 will be 96,000, an increase of 7,900 over the previous year; the birth rate is 9.28‰, an increase of 0.68 per thousand points over the previous year, and 2.89 per thousand points higher than the national level.
