He People’s Party has achieved victory in the 2023 municipal elections in Genil Bridgealthough the sum of PSOE and Con Andalucía will allow the socialist party to revalidate the mayoralty, maintaining the current balance of forces in the Pontanese town, provided that both forces are capable of sealing a pact.
With almost 30,000 inhabitants, Puente Genil faced these elections with a wide open prognosis. There were four parties running for the elections in this town, the second most populous in the province: PP, PSOE, Vox and Izquierda Unida.
The PSOE won at the polls in 2019, with Esteban Morales in front. His candidacy obtained ten ediles, while the PP and IU drew five each and, for the first time, Ciudadanos entered, who has become part of the municipal government team, but who does not appear in this call. This means that 21 councilors are elected to the Consistory.
After 12 years of municipal government -with an absolute majority between 2015 and 2019-, the PSOE of Stephen Morales he aspired to a re-election threatened by the push of the opposition parties.
And it is that so much Sergio Velascothe PP candidate, as Jesus David Sanchez, that of the United Left, were clear that they were facing a golden opportunity to oust the Socialists from their hegemony. The results, however, seem to indicate the opposite, although it remains to be seen if this pact between the PSOE and Con Andalucía ends up curdling and it does so with the socialist Esteban Morales at the helm.
