14.45 – Verstappen’s slalom at the restart between the cars exiting the pit lane.
Green light at the end of the pit lanePL2 in Abu Dhabi begins again.
14.40 – The German loses his car at the exit of turn 1 and crashes. Little damage, so he leaves shortly, at 2.44pm.
14.38 – It’s a haunted session, evidently. Hülkenberg also in the barrier.
Red flag
14.37 – Everyone on the track, except Sainz of course. Eleven with the softs, eight (including Leclerc and Verstappen) with the mediums.
Green light at the end of the pit lanePL2 in Abu Dhabi begins again.
14.30 – In total, PL2 will therefore last just over half an hour (the initial seven minutes plus the final 25).
14.29 – The session will resume at 2.35pm.
14.28 – The SF-23 returned to the Ferrari garage.
14.27 – This is our in-depth analysis of Sainz’s accident in turn 3.
14.25 – At the time of the accident, Sainz was in 11th place, 801 thousandths behind Russell.
14.22 – These are the times before the red flag:
1. Russell 1:25.906
2. Ricciardo +0.468
3. Stroll +0.504
4. Magnussen +0.507
5. Verstappen +0.547
6. Plates +0.560
7. Leclerc +0.665
8. Tsunoda +0.694
9. Bottas +0.716
10. Sargeant +0.753
14.19 – Certainly, if the removal of the debris and the preparation of the barriers took a long time, this Friday would be particularly useless in terms of feedback on the race pace. In fact, PL1 is not very indicative, having been held at a totally different time from that of the Grand Prix.
14.16 – “It looks really bad“, these were Gasly’s words as he passed by Sainz’s accident.
14.13 – These are the images of the accident.
🚩 RED FLAG 🚩

14.12 – Not exactly a lucky period for Sainz, who last week saw his PL1 end after ten minutes after hitting a manhole.
14.10 – If the pilot is fine, the same cannot be said of the SF-23. The damage appears serious, on the entire left side and on the rear axle. It remains to be seen whether a change of elements will be necessary for tomorrow: as for today, the session of #55 is certainly closed.
14.08 – Sainz hits the wall in turn 3, the driver is fine. The Spaniard says he got dirty air and a disconnection of the asphalt.
Red flag
14.07 – The Ferrari drivers debut with Leclerc’s P6 (+0.665) and Sainz’s P10 (+0.801) on medium tyres.
14.06 – Ricciardo in P2 a +0.468.
14.05 – Russell is the first to go under 1:26 and gives everyone half a second, 1:25.906.
14.04 – Magnussen surprises him, beating him by 40 thousandths (1:26.413).
14.03 – Verstappen immediately dictates the pace with the time of 1:26.453.
14.02 – The American is also on track, the only one on the C5 soft tyre.
14.01 – 19 drivers already on track, all on medium C4 tires except Bottas (hard, C3). The only one in the pits is Sargeant.
14.00 – The first to take to the track are Hülkenberg, Bottas, Albon and Zhou.
Green light at the end of the pit lanePL2 in Abu Dhabi begins.
13.55 – They will undoubtedly be a much more indicative 60 minutes than those seen this morning, as they will run at the same time as the race and an hour before tomorrow’s qualifying; therefore, there will be at least comparable asphalt and track temperatures and reliable feedback on the flying lap and race pace.
13.50 – 27°C the air temperature, 35°C the asphalt temperature.
13.40 – In the morning, however, another very significant official announcement arrived: McLaren will continue to be equipped by Mercedes power units until 2030.
13.30 – We begin our news with the decisions of the F1 Commission: yes to tyrewarmers also in 2025 and much more.
It gets serious at Yas Marina

Up for grabs at Yas Marina is the second place in the Constructors’ standings between Mercedes and Ferrariwith the Brackley team arriving in Abu Dhabi with just four points ahead of the Scuderia from Maranello.
In the first free practice session, the fastest was George Russell in the Mercedes, ahead of Felipe Drugovich in the Aston Martin and Daniel Ricciardo in the AlphaTauri. Fourth Valtteri Bottas, then Lance Stroll, Oscar Piastri and the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Robert Shwartzman, with the SF-23 currently showing some suffering in the third sector where, however, Sainz made an obvious mistake when exiting the last corner.
