2023 Flu Vaccination Campaign: Free Vaccinations in Buenos Aires to Reduce Complications and Deaths

The 2023 Flu Vaccination campaign is applied free of charge and without a medical order in all Buenos Aires vaccination centers, with the aim of reducing complications, hospitalizations and deaths caused by virus infection.

According to a report from the Directorate for the Control of Immunopreventable Diseases, the aim is to achieve “coverage greater than or equal to 95 percent in each group of the population at risk” and should ideally be applied before the beginning of winter.

However, with “the national, regional and local epidemiological scenario that we are experiencing, influenza vaccination will continue for the rest of the year” due to the dynamics of viral circulation, reported the national Ministry of Health.

Where and when to get the flu vaccine?

The flu vaccine is available in all Comprehensive Health Centers (CIS) of the Municipality of Lomas, from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, it will be applied at the Temperley Immediate Diagnosis Hospital Vaccination Center, located at Av. Hipólito Yrigoyen 10002, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are two doses that must be applied at a minimum interval of four weeks between the first and the second.

What happens if I want to get the flu vaccine and I have COVID-19?

The Ministry of Health of the Nation, in a quick guide to flu vaccination 2023, reported that “although there are no medical contraindications to administer vaccines” in patients diagnosed with Covid-19, they recommend “postponing vaccination until clinical discharge.” Although they can be co-administered with other vaccines on the National Calendar.

What is the flu and how is it transmitted?

It is a highly transmissible acute viral disease that affects the respiratory system and is spread from one person to another by contact with the droplets that infected people expel when coughing, sneezing or speaking, and also through contaminated surfaces or objects.
