How are the teams doing in pre-season? All information about this at this point.

+++ July 10, 2023: RB Leipzig starts pre-season with three newcomers +++

Enthusiastic about the new signings and the returnees, coach Marco Rose enjoyed the first day of training in Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig’s pre-season. However, the 46-year-old Rose only had 14 outfield players available on Monday, including nine youth players who were not part of the squad. Most of the team won’t join the team for a week. A number of players from the DFB Cup winners were still on duty with their respective national teams after the end of the season and were therefore given an extra week of vacation.

Newcomers Fabio Carvalho (Liverpool FC), Benjamin Sesko (RB Salzburg) and Leopold Zingerle (SC Paderborn) were there on Monday. They convinced the coach, as did Angeliño, who was last loaned out to TSG Hoffenheim. Still, Rose didn’t want to be tied down to goals for the season just yet. He wants to discuss this with the entire team. Rose left it open as to what that will look like, but seemed completely relaxed about it. “I know more than you do. I know what the squad will look like. We always talk about people who aren’t there or who have left, but we still have a lot of top players here,” the coach told the journalists present.

After the departures of Konrad Laimer (Bayern Munich), Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea FC) and Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool FC), further changes are likely to follow. Josko Gvardiol already agrees with Champions League winners Manchester City. Angeliño, who returned to Leipzig after being loaned to TSG Hoffenheim, is associated with Galatasaray Istanbul, Marcel Halstenberg is flirting with a move to second division side Hannover 96. “Rumors” was Rose’s comment. Halstenberg was absent on Monday because he was the wedding guest of teammate and friend Yussuf Poulsen in Denmark over the weekend.

Rose also countered a report by “Sportbild” (Monday) that his own contract extension was on the home stretch. “We have completely different issues now, namely the composition of the squad. But everyone knows that as a Leipziger I feel very comfortable in my city.”

On July 20, RB will travel to the training camp in Brunico in South Tyrol with a large contingent. Part of the program is a test match against the Italian first division side Udinese Calcio in Lienz on July 25 and, at the end, a test tournament in Innsbruck with games against Werder Bremen and Ipswich Town (England).

+++ July 6th, 2023: Bundesliga dress rehearsal against Klopp: Darmstadt travels to England +++

Coach Jürgen Klopp will play a friendly with Liverpool FC against SV Darmstadt 98 shortly before the start of the season. The game is scheduled for August 7 (8 p.m.) in Preston, England, as the Bundesliga promoted announced on Thursday.

“We are very happy that we can play against this top European club with so much history at the end of our preparation,” said Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht: “For both teams, the meeting is the dress rehearsal before the start of the season. So we’re counting with a Liverpool side that are in full swing and will push us hard.”

A week after the friendly against Liverpool, Darmstadt will start the new competitive season with the DFB Cup game at regional league club FC 08 Homburg. The Bundesliga season begins for the club on August 19th or 20th at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Klopp and Liverpool FC are also visiting Germany this summer and will face Karlsruher SC on July 19 and second division side SpVgg Greuther Fürth on July 24.

+++ June 29, 2023: RB Leipzig is negotiating a friendly with Paris Saint-Germain +++

RB Leipzig is planning a top-class test match to open the season on August 5th. According to dpa information, the German cup winner is in talks with the French champions Paris Saint-Germain. First the “image” reported about it. However, no contracts have been signed yet. A friendly game was agreed when Leipzig assistant coach Zsolt Löw moved to Paris in 2018, but it did not take place in 2019 due to the corona pandemic and could now be made up for.

As reported by “Bild”, PSG could come to Leipzig with all the stars around Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. It would be the clubs’ sixth meeting. RB lost 3-0 in the 2020 Champions League semifinals. In the group phase of the premier class it was 2: 1 and 0: 1 in the 2020/2021 season, in the following season 2: 2 and 2: 3 from the point of view of the Saxons.
