According to the lowest estimate, the influx of asylum seekers next year will be 49,800, in the highest scenario this will be 78,500. This concerns everyone who applies for asylum here for the first time, but also, for example, people who apply for asylum again and follow-up travelers through family reunification. This is evident from the annual forecast of the ministries and organizations involved in the migration chain. This Multi-Year Production Forecast (MPP) will be discussed in the Council of Ministers on Friday.
The forecast for 2024 was slightly lower, between 48,800 and 75,700.
Earlier, State Secretary Van der Burg of Asylum announced that the dispersal law established that a total of 96,000 shelter places must be available by July 1 next year.
The dispersal law should better distribute asylum seekers across the country. In extreme cases, municipalities can be forced to take in asylum seekers if they do not do so voluntarily.
The forecast for next year also states that between 32,000 and 63,000 new asylum seekers are expected to arrive.
The cabinet fell last year over disagreements over asylum policy. VVD, D66, CDA and the Christian Union could not agree on measures to limit the influx of asylum seekers. Reception has been at a standstill for years, reception centers are overcrowded and the registration center in Ter Apel regularly houses more than 2,000 asylum seekers. As a result, COA now has to pay more than 400,000 fines to the municipality.
The four forming parties PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB want the number of asylum seekers coming to our country to be significantly reduced.
