The 2023-2024 flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign started on October 9 with the administration of doses to people in nursing homes and disability centers; people over 85 years of age, as well as health and social health professionals.

Since October 16, those over 70 have also been vaccinated; to children six months or older, adolescents and adults with chronic pathologies; to highly dependent people in their homes and professional caregivers; to pregnant and postpartum women, and children’s anti-flu is administered to children from six to 59 months. And on October 30, vaccinations began for those over 60 years of age and professional groups (Security Forces and Corps, ranchers, penitentiary institutions*). Starting in December, household members of people over 60 years of age, people with chronic pathologies and risk situations, and pregnant and postpartum women will be vaccinated against flu and covid.

Dosage by age

By groups, a total of 55,540 children from 6 to 59 months have already been vaccinated against the flu, which means 20.4% of the total. In nursing homes, Almost 90% of residents have been vaccinated against flu and 80% against Covid-19. In the case of those over 85 years of age, 60% already have the flu vaccine and 47% have the Covid vaccine. Regarding those over 60, 35% have received the flu vaccine and 26% have received the Covid vaccine.

The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs recalls that, as in the previous campaign, Andalusia is using quadrivalent flu vaccines, that is, they cover the two strains A and the two strains B of the virus, making them the most complete. currently and with it those that can provide greater protection and reliability. For their part, the available Covid-19 vaccines for this campaign include the predominant variant currently circulating in Spain (Ómicron XBB.1.5).

For this campaign, the Junta de Andalucía affirms that has acquired 7.5% more doses against flu than in 2022, which represents a total of 2.2 million. This increase is mainly due to one of the most notable novelties of the campaign: the lowering of the starting age of flu vaccination in adults to 60 years of age.
