2022 World Cup Ready to Accept 5 Player Substitution Rule

GENEVA, KOMPAS.com – The world football federation, FIFA, on Thursday (23/6/2022) released the latest policy regarding the number of players in the 2022 World Cup.

Initially, each participating country only got 26 players.

“We have increased the number of players to a maximum of 28 players,” said a FIFA statement.

According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, this policy is indeed related to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world.

Usually, in previous World Cup events, FIFA allowed a minimum of 23 and a maximum of 26 players for a team of countries participating in the final round.

“This policy of 28 players also applies to the 2022 World Cup final,” said Gianni Infantino.

The 2022 World Cup will take place in Doha, Qatar from 21 November 2022 to 18 December 2022.

Previously, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in early June 2022 had given the green light for the substitution of five players in a normal football match, 2 x 45 minutes.

This IFAB policy is also related to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
