2022 World Cup play-offs: Portugal used to pressure

Porto

National team Portugal have to go through the play-offs to get tickets to 2022 World Cup. Portugal coach Fernando Santos believes his team can pass this test.

Portugal was thrown into the play-offs after only finishing second in Group A of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in the European zone. They finished runners-up after being defeated by Serbia 1-2 in the last match.

Portugal faces a road that is not easy in 2022 World Cup play-offs. They will face Turkey in the semifinals. If qualified, Cristiano Ronaldo will face the winner of the match Italy vs North Macedonia.

Fernando Santos believes Portugal can overcome the pressure in the 2022 World Cup play-offs. The experience of winning the 2016 European Cup and the 2019 Nations League is said by Santos to be in Portugal’s favor.

“What always happens to the Portuguese national team is positive pressure,” said Fernando Santos Evening Standard.

“The two finals we’ve played, we won. In qualifying, which is decisive, we always give a positive response, except for the last one (against Serbia).”

“These players have a lot of experience and don’t let themselves be influenced.”

“We have to set the standard for this team. We’ve been in two finals and won. Tomorrow, another final, and we want to give happiness to the 11 million people of Portugal,” added Santos.

Portugal will face Turkey in the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup play-offs at the Estadio Do Dragao, Porto, Friday (25/3/2022) early morning WIB.
