2022 World Cup in Qatar, Dutch coach slams FIFA

Jakarta

2022 World Cup will roll in Qatar. dutch coach, Louis van Gaalwas displeased and gave a very scathing statement.

The World Cup in Qatar starts on November 21 and ends on December 18, 2022. The event in the West Asian region has actually drawn a lot of criticism.

The Netherlands has managed to qualify after winning Group G in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in the European zone. However, Van Gaal is not happy that Qatar is hosting it because FIFA is seen as just looking for profit.

“We will play in a country, which FIFA says we will help develop football there. That is nonsense,” Van Gaal said at a news conference ahead of the Netherlands’ friendlies against Denmark and Germany in the next eight days, quoted by AP.

“The tournament in Qatar is about money and commercial interests. That’s what matters to FIFA.”

Van Gaal was part of the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) representative before serving as coach of the national team replacing Frank de Boer. At that time, he held monthly meetings to evaluate the ongoing situation in Qatar with regard to human rights.

The KNVB is one of the few football associations to criticize human rights in the process of building infrastructure for the World Cup in Qatar. One of them is alleged forced labor there.

“The KNVB has never supported hosting the World Cup in Qatar and certainly does not approve of the way migrant workers are treated there,” Van Gaal said in a statement last year after a visit to the country.
