A COLLEGE football player tragically died in a cliff diving accident in Oklahoma on Saturday.

Brexten Green, 20, “never surfaced again” after jumping into Grand Lake, where his body was later recovered in 31 feet of water.

He was scheduled to begin his sophomore season with the Emporia state football team after playing as a red shirt his freshman year.

Delaware County Emergency Medical Services received a call after the incident and recovered Green’s body.

Emporia State confirmed Green’s death in a statement mourning the loss of the beloved wide receiver.

“It’s a terrible day for Emporia State Football and just a devastating loss to the Green family,” said Emporia State Football Coach Garin Higgins.

“Brexten has been a great teammate who has cared so much about this football programme.

“It showed in his competitive spirit, work ethic and willingness to be there for his family.

“He will always be a part of our Hornet football family.”

Green was an Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State selection for the 2020 Oklahoma Class A State Champion Wildcats.

In his obituary, the late football star is described as “larger than life”.

“Whether it’s a flat tyre, a friend in need or just hanging out, Brexten was there and usually the center of attention,” he said obituary read.

“He spent his last day on earth doing one of the many things he loved — enjoying friends.”

Honors were poured in online after the devastating news of Green’s untimely death broke.

His funeral service is scheduled to take place at his high school’s grammar school, where “in true Cashian Wildcat fashion, we’re sending him away.”
