When what you love has a chance to endanger your life, you will choose to give up? Or continue to embrace interest? Today I will introduce you to a miracle boy who continues to embrace basketball while having the chance to endanger his life.
The 2021 NBA Draft was praised by many as “The most talented draft in recent years“. Among them are talented players such as Cade Cunningham, the all-around forward who led the No. 1 pick, Jalen Suggs, the speed guard, and the unicorn Ivan Mobley. However, the player I want to show you today may not have the same talents as others, and not have such good physical fitness, but he walked quietly with his solid skills and a passion for basketball. Under the spotlight, he is Luka Garza from Iowa.
Life
Garza was born into a basketball family, including his parents and grandfather who have played college and professional basketball. His father played NCAA, while his mother played for the European Professional League. Because of this, Luka has been exposed to basketball since he was a child.
“‘It’s why I live”He mentioned in an interview that basketball is already an indispensable thing in his life.“It’s why I woke . It’s why I sleep”It shows how important basketball occupies for him in his life. Because his parents have basketball backgrounds, Luka often practiced in the gym with his father. In the interview film, you can see that the father Frank’s training for his son can be said to be quite strict. He trains Luka as a player, not his own son. The training for Luka is often carried out with loud urges and roars. However, Luka himself enjoys this process. He said that many people may hate such troublesome and tiring training, but he really likes the feeling of working hard. His efforts are fruitful!
After steadily devoting himself to basketball training he loves, his skills have become more and more outstanding, coupled with his extraordinary height (over 200 cm in his first high), let him slowly rise in high school basketball. His performance in high school made him decide to continue to challenge college basketball after graduating from high school, and he was also listed as a 4-star high school student by ESPN in 2017 with 83 points, which happened to be ranked 100th. Although this was not a very impressive result, Luka was not discouraged. He decided to go to Iowa and continue to prove himself with his passion.
He did achieve results! In the first game of his freshman year, he scored double-digit points, and throughout the year he also scored 12 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1 assist. Just as he was about to prepare for the next sophomore year, things started to happen. Luka returned home to meet his family after finishing all the freshman schedule, but his father found that something was wrong. Luka’s appetite was different from usual. He started to eat less and less, and later discovered that his belly had an unusual bump. After his father asked, he found that Luka’s belly had this bump for a whole season. Said that he played the whole season with this bump. But Luka himself said that he doesn’t actually hurt at all, just that the bulge gets bigger and bigger.
However, they later went to the hospital for a comprehensive examination, and finally found a cyst with a radius of 8 cm near his spleen through CT scan, which was filled with fluid. This shocked the whole family, because if an accidental impact broke the cyst in his stomach during the game, the consequences might be more than just injuries. This may ruin his basketball career and even endanger his life. Under such circumstances, it is a great miracle that no accident has happened after a full freshman year!
Later, they resolutely decided to perform the operation. Although this might make his ability worse than before, it was too dangerous to continue like this. After the operation, Luka recovered much faster than expected, which also allowed him to catch up with the sophomore season of the school.
In the next sophomore and junior games, Luka made progress in all aspects. Whether it is in the team’s tactical status, or personal offensive stability, as well as the growth of data have been significantly improved. However, his down-to-earth style keeps him out of the search range of the news. Until the 2020-2021 season, which is his final year of college season, his performance can be said to be a full-scale explosion. In the 12 seasons so far, his results are: 27.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.8 blocks per game, and 62.5/48.8/72.4 shots per game. You can see that this is like a star-level data.
In the game against Southern on November 27th, Luka scored 36 points in the first half, and finally scored 41 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks with a terrifying efficiency of 14 of 15 shots. He led Iowa to 103: 76 defeated the opponent. The bright and efficient explosive performance also made everyone notice him among the talented 2021 draft candidates.
