The rumor circulated, then it amplified. At the start of the 2020 school year, the will of American e-commerce giant to settle in the Nantes vineyards was clear. Amazon’s project: install a 185,000 m platform2 in Montbert. The building permit, filed in April, is being examined.
To run such a warehouse, 790 people will be needed for the operating part, while the administrative part of the site will employ around 45 people. But its operation would involve at least 1,500 recruitments in total.
Several collectives
However, Amazon crystallizes opinion. Because since this project is known to the general public, he grinds his teeth certain inhabitants, who came to demonstrate several times in front of the site, in Montbert.
Collective, Stop Amazon 44, has been created. Some elected officials, professionals and citizens have joined forces to say “no” to this establishment. On the other hand, a new collective has emerged: Yes to Amazon for Montbert. A first rally in favor of the establishment of the American giant took place last December.
The fear of a new ZAD
Amazon’s arrival at Montbert divides. She leaves no one indifferent. The project is barely validated that the languages are released, in favor or against this implantation. A split which seems to have been confirmed and which leads to believe that gatherings should continue in front of the Bayonne business park site. The specter of a new ZAD (Zone to Defend) already occupies the minds of the inhabitants of the Vineyard.
