2021 Most Successful Year Ever for New York Pizza – The National Franchise Guide

Published on , by The National Franchise Guide

The new year couldn’t have started better for franchise formula New York Pizza: last month they opened no fewer than 12 new branches in the Netherlands and Belgium. A record number of openings in one month, bringing the total number of branches to 253. This makes 2021 the most successful year ever for the originally Dutch pizza chain.
Unprecedented growth

In December 2021, New York Pizza opened 12 new locations in one month, the largest number in the pizza chain’s history. They opened branches in Schagen, Middelburg, Landgraaf, Cuijk, Antwerp (Deurne) and at three(!) new locations in Rotterdam. Franchise Recruiter Ferdinand Molenaar explains: “We are very proud of the fact that we welcomed no fewer than 14 new entrepreneurs with a heart of dough were welcome, because in addition to the new branches, there were also two takeovers. We will enter 2022 with 253 locations in the Netherlands and Belgium and 107 locations in Germany!”

The growth of the franchise organization was already predicted by founder Philippe Vorst earlier this year, when Norwegian conglomerate Orkla bought a 75% share of the company. This partial acquisition was supposed to help New York Pizza grow faster, and it appears that those expectations are indeed being met. Thanks to this acquisition, the number of branches in Germany grew from 2 to 107, and the chain is also growing steadily in the Netherlands and Belgium. The new branches in Germany are mainly acquisitions, all of which will have the New York Pizza logo on the front in the coming years.

Success Formula

What is the success formula of this popular franchise formula, which makes all these entrepreneurs choose New York Pizza? For the owner of New York Pizza Raamsdonksveer, Boy van Gastel, the growth ambitions of New York Pizza – which he shares with them – were one of the main reasons for choosing them. He opened his business in Raamsdonksveer in December and immediately signed an intention for another branch. “The growth opportunities at New York Pizza in combination with the good guidance and extensive training for entrepreneurs are the reasons that I chose this franchise formula.” says VanGastel. Every new entrepreneur receives an internal training of 12 weeks at New York Pizza, in which they not only learn the tricks of baking pizza, but also of entrepreneurship.

In addition to this good preparation, New York Pizza is also a logical choice for many catering entrepreneurs because of the takeaway and delivery concept. Over the past two years, the corona crisis has made takeout and delivery indispensable services for many catering businesses. The fact that New York Pizza has been fully committed to this since the establishment of the formula in 1993, has partly ensured that they could continue to operate and even grow in these times.
