For the minister, the NHS now begins an “expansion cycle”, after a “replacement cycle” between 2015 and 2019, which followed a “reduction cycle” between 2010 and 2015.

“This is, therefore, the first ground for stating that health is the top budgetary priority. The rationale for noting that after a reduction cycle there has been a replacement cycle and the conditions for an expansion cycle are now in place, ”he said in his initial speech to the committee discussing the 2020 Budget in the area of Cheers.

Dreaded Marta recalled that between 2010 and 2012 NHS spending decreased by 1,400 million euros, thus remaining until 2014 and continuing, in 2015, 906 million below the value of 2010.

“Between 2015 and 2019, total expenditure grew by 1,635 million euros, mainly due to personnel and intermediate consumption expenses, such as medicines and devices,” he added.

In the words of the official, in terms of State Budget appropriations, between 2010 and 2015 there was a decrease of 1.8% on average, while between 2015-2019 there was an average annual growth of 3.5%.

The Minister of Health is today being heard in Parliament on the State Budget for 2020, as part of the sectoral hearings taking place in the Budget and Finance committee.

The Health Budget has forecasted 11 billion euros for 2020, an increase of 941 million over the initial budget of 2019.
