2020 our greatest learning

2020 our greatest learning

Víctor Hugo Granados Zapata

We are reaching the final stretch of this difficult and challenging year. With the passing of each day and each month, these same challenges did nothing but grow larger and larger and affected those with the least resources twice, for this reason I wish to make this last reflection in honor of those who have suffered the most in these times of uncertainty, but also hope and strength. There is no doubt that our medical staff are the ones who get the worst of it, since public and private health institutions have not had a single break since covid 19 arrived in our country in March, however, this time we will talk more specifically of those who managed to sustain our educational system despite the improvisation of a model through distance education, the teachers.

2020 has been a huge challenge for the education sector and even any attempt to describe its difficulty would fall short. Bringing the school home through television has not been entirely effective and millions of students have dropped out (either due to financial need or because they could not adapt to this new distance education). More than 3 million girls and boys will not know what will happen to their education, since the Full Time Schools program will disappear, in the same way, thousands of teachers are celebrating these holidays with the uncertainty of whether they will to pay their back wages (in the case of those who were in the ETC or PRONI). Even among those of us who are interested in the learning of girls and boys, we are concerned about the lags that will have to be covered in the next semester or school year, where the most disconcerting thing is that despite the fact that from academia or civil society we promote different proposals It seems that the federal government is not willing to listen, much less consider them.

However, despite all the above, Mexican teachers made an extraordinary effort to keep education afloat. Despite the poor educational management of the federation and the educational institutions of the federative entities, each teacher individually promoted new pedagogy and teaching techniques to transmit the necessary knowledge. The evaluation is still on hold and that will be another challenge for next year, where the opinion and participation of teachers is essential, we hope that the next Secretary of Education, teacher Delfina Gómez, will take into consideration the recommendations of your own guild.

Given the above, I can only thank each teacher and professor, at all levels, for their great performance in these desolate times, where it seems to be easier to throw in the towel, you have given us the example of being constant , of what it is to have a vocation for teaching. By adapting to new technologies and finding new ways to teach, they showed us that learning is a life-long process. Next year we will overcome all these new challenges that lie ahead and it is largely thanks to his teachings.

Finally, as students we had to make a great effort to adapt to online classes and find new study techniques. It was not easy to take classes in front of the computer, cell phone or television, however, we managed to continue with our studies and we are more than committed to overcome the obstacles that distance education may have. Before concluding, I want to thank each one of you who have taken the time to read this space where, as its name implies, I try to criticize education issues in all its manifestations (political, legal, etc. .), and finally to the newspaper of El Heraldo, for giving me the opportunity to publish these reflections, since writing for this great newspaper is more than an honor. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
