2020 New York Auto Show Officially Canceled | Automotive news

Last March, the organizers of the New York Auto Show, which was to be held in the first week of April, decided to postpone their annual event to the end of August due to the coronavirus.

At the time the decision was made, there were still few cases and there was hope that the pandemic could be stopped, or at least reduced in magnitude.

Over the weeks, it became clearer and clearer that it would be impossible to hold the Show in August. So the news about its cancellation came as no surprise.

As of this writing, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, located on 11th Avenue in Manhattan in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, remains laid out as a field hospital for COVID-19 patients.

In fact, the logistical uncertainty associated with the use of the convention center makes meeting the dates untenable. And even if the situation were to miraculously improve over the next few weeks, there are no risks to be taken.

“Since the start of this pandemic, we have worked closely with the governor’s office and with Javits officials to protect our participants,” said Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. “We are extremely proud of the role the Javits Center played during this difficult time and we understand the need for it to remain ready to serve.”

“We also understand the immense planning required for automakers and their show partners to put on a show of this magnitude. Due to the uncertainty caused by the virus, we believe that it would not be safe to continue with Salon 2020 and rather we are preparing for an even bigger event in 2021 ”.

The hospital was apparently closed in early May and is currently not housing any patients, but it will remain in place until federal and state authorities deem it prudent to dismantle it, leaving the center’s availability in limbo. .

The New York Auto Show, 2021 edition, will be held from April 2 to 11.
